All young people have limitless potential, no matter what challenges they face. Each Saturday, deaf and hard of hearing youth can enjoy an array of enriching activities that expand their world.
The Children’s Aid Saturday Program for Deaf and Hard of Hearing Youth remains the only free program of its kind in New York City. Between recreational and social activities, field trips and service projects, deaf and hard of hearing children build a community and broaden their horizons.
Unlocking their potential
This culturally affirmative program addresses the needs and concerns of young individuals who have mild-to-moderate hearing loss and who may communicate through sign language, spoken language, or both.
Small group sizes, divided by age, allow youth to develop bonds with their peers, while still receiving important individualized attention from group facilitators. Many staff members and volunteers are deaf adults, which allows participants to see deaf adults who have overcome cross-cultural conflicts and live successful, independent lives. Parents are also supported through group discussions and are connected to public assistance and other vital resources.
Program enrollment is open to all five boroughs, and sessions run three Saturdays a month throughout the academic school year.
