Food Box Program Starts in Harlem, Staten Island, and the South Bronx
NEW YORK, NY (July 9, 2019) — New Yorkers looking to get more fresh fruits and vegetables this summer can make their produce shopping more affordable - Children’s Aid is offering $30 worth of produce for just $10. The deal is part of the Eat Smart New York program, which runs its seasonal Go!Healthy Food Box distributions at locations in Harlem, Staten Island, and the South Bronx.
Each food box contains seven to nine pieces of high-quality, local fresh fruits and vegetables. The weekly bounty is accompanied by a healthy, delicious recipe and cooking demonstration that utilizes the produce items, inspiring families to prepare delicious meals with their purchase. Food box orders are taken one week in advance and picked up the following week.
This summer, Children’s Aid Eat Smart New York program will also run classes for kids at the food box distribution in the Bronx where young participants learn how to taste, identify and appreciate local produce. Kids and parents in attendance will receive Health Bucks coupons that they can use to purchase produce items at the food box and farmstand or at any farmers market across the city.
If you are interested in purchasing a Go!Healthy food box, you can sign up at any of the Children’s Aid distribution sites a week in advance and can pay using cash, credit/debit, EBT, FMNP (WIC and Senior checks), and Health Bucks coupons. The Go!Healthy Food Box program is funded by the USDA’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP).

For more than 165 years, Children’s Aid has been committed to ensuring that there are no boundaries to the aspirations of young people, no limits to their potential. We know what it takes to ensure children and youth grow up strong and healthy, and ready to thrive in school and life: excellent education and health care, social-emotional support, and strong stable families. Today, we serve nearly 50,000 children, youth, and their families at more than 40 sites in four under-resourced neighborhoods in New York City.
