New York, NY – Children’s Aid announced today it received a grant of $50,000 from Bayer Fund, a philanthropic arm of Bayer in the U.S. This grant will be used to expand the Go!Chefs nutritional education program for children and food box distribution for families.
“We are so grateful to receive this grant from the Bayer Fund,” said Phoebe C. Boyer, President and CEO of Children’s Aid. “Our education programs help children learn critical culinary skills and establish lifelong healthy habits, and our food boxes provide direct relief to families in need. This donation from Bayer Fund will help us provide these vital services to even more children and families in New York City.”
This grant will not only provide support to Children’s Aid, but also the local communities served. Go!Chefs is a hands-on food education program that teaches children how to prepare healthy, wholesome meals at home. Go!Chefs will get the opportunity to expand to an additional program site and pilot an updated curriculum targeted to middle-school students.
Additionally, the grant will be used to expand the food box program to select families at community schools. Children’s Aid is a nationally recognized leader in the community schools’ model, which takes a holistic approach to serving the needs of students and families. Food boxes have been a vital resource to families in need during the pandemic and continue to be essential during the city’s recovery.
“Food insecurity has consistently emerged as one of the most pressing issues affecting families in our programs over the past two years,” Boyer said. “We transitioned our food box program, which provides families with boxes of locally grown produce on a weekly basis to a ‘pay what you can’ model, while also adding shelf-stable goods to the boxes for the first time.” Children’s Aid has distributed more than 200,000 meals and food boxes since April 2020 alone.
“Throughout the years, the grants given through Bayer Fund have helped strengthen our communities across the United States,” said Al Mitchell, President of Bayer Fund. “We’re proud to be able to provide support to programs like Go!Chefs that help combat the critical issue of food insecurity, ultimately ensuring even more Americans have access to healthy, nutritious food.”
In 2021, Bayer Fund awarded more than $13.1 million to over 3,400 charitable and nonprofit organizations to help address essential needs in Food and Nutrition, STEM Education and Health & Wellness. Over the last five years, nonprofit organizations across the U.S. have received more than $75 million.
