Statement from Children's Aid President and CEO, Richard Buery
"I applaud Speaker Quinn’s comprehensive vision to support NYC’s children and youth from cradle to career. Full-service community schools – a proven strategy – are a critical part of this vision. They expand learning, integrate health services, and engage families to keep our neediest kids on track for college graduation – the one sure pathway out of poverty. In order to help those 1 in 3 NYC children who live in poverty beat the odds we also must invest in the programs that we know are necessary building blocks for future success, including funding early childhood and after-school programs, which are currently on the chopping block in the 2013 budget.”
The Children’s Aid Society is an independent, not-for-profit organization established to serve the children of New York City. Our mission is to help children in poverty to succeed and thrive. We do this by providing comprehensive supports to children and their families in targeted high-needs New York City neighborhoods. Founded in 1853, it is one of the nation’s largest and most innovative non-sectarian agencies, serving New York’s neediest children. Services are provided in community schools, neighborhood centers, health clinics and camps.
