New York - The Children’s Aid Society today named Katherine Eckstein as Chief of Staff. In this role, Eckstein will serve as key advisor to the President and CEO and as a member of the senior leadership team charged with driving Children’s Aid’s cradle-through-college agenda. She will work closely with members of the Executive Cabinet and the senior leadership team to improve overall organizational effectiveness and accountability.
For the past four years, Eckstein has led advocacy efforts at Children’s Aid as Director of Public Policy in the areas of education, health, child welfare, youth development, early learning, adolescent pregnancy prevention, juvenile justice, and cross-systems coordination. In 2012, her work with the Campaign for Children coalition helped prevent what would have been devastating cuts to child care and after-school programs in New York City. As she transitions to her new role, she will continue to oversee The Children’s Aid Society’s work to drive local, state and federal policy in support of low-income children and families in New York City.
Eckstein succeeds Greg Morris, Children's Aid's first Chief of Staff. Morris will be returning to his background in direct service as deputy director of Children’s Aid's Adolescence Services Division.
Eckstein joined The Children’s Aid Society in 2005. In her previous position, she worked to broaden support for the agency’s community schools model as an education reform strategy.
“Katherine's deep knowledge of The Children's Aid Society, including her experience with key initiatives such as community schools, makes her uniquely well-positioned to assume this role,” said Richard R. Buery, Jr., Children’s Aid President and CEO. “She has the respect of her colleagues in education, child welfare, foundations and government, as well as all of us who have worked with her at Children's Aid.”
Before joining The Children’s Aid Society, Eckstein was special assistant to a New York City Department of Education regional superintendent and interim director of a community technology center. Eckstein has a B.A. in public policy from Brown University and an M.A. in elementary education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
