Children's Aid to Honor Citi, Bill McDermott, SAP Co-CEO at 2nd Annual Gala

New York – The Children’s Aid Society will honor Citigroup Inc. and Bill McDermott, SAP Co-CEO, at its second annual gala, to be held on Thursday, November 29, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at event space 583 Park Avenue in New York City. The Keeping the Promise gala will celebrate Children’s Aid’s nearly 160 years of service to New York’s neediest children and families, while showcasing the work of corporate and community leaders who uphold the Children’s Aid promise through meaningful partnerships.

"We are delighted to honor our corporate partners whose support is helping Children’s Aid to break generational cycles of poverty across New York City,” said The Children’s Aid Society President and CEO Richard R. Buery, Jr. “We are proud to recognize Citi and Bill McDermott and grateful for the opportunity to work together with them to support children in some of our city’s most vulnerable neighborhoods.”

Citi will be presented with the Corporate Leadership Award for the company’s significant support of the National Center for Community Schools and strengthening the core work of community schools sites in New York City. A proven education reform strategy, community schools bring together under one roof essential academic, health and social services, turning schools in underserved neighborhoods into community hubs where academic, after-school and health needs are met and barriers to success are eliminated. Gene McQuade, CEO of Citibank, N.A. and trustee of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, will accept the award on behalf of Citi. Citi has supported The Children’s Aid Society, a founding member of the Boys & Girls Clubs of America, for nearly 20 years.

“Citi has been proud to support The Children’s Aid Society for nearly two decades,” said Gene McQuade. “Its programs have enriched the lives of thousands of children and families across New York City, our home, for 200 years. We are deeply committed to working with organizations like Children’s Aid that provide the foundation, support and resources that young people need to achieve, families need to thrive and communities need to prosper.”

Bill McDermott, Co-CEO and Executive Board member of SAP AG, will receive the Promise Award in tribute to SAP’s commitment to building an environment that enhances education and entrepreneurship, and its growing partnership with Children’s Aid. McDermott is an active community leader and advocate for corporate social responsibility. Under McDermott’s leadership as Co-CEO, SAP has introduced a global volunteering program that engages more than 20% of employees each year as well as technology donation and grants that help to transform education and economic opportunity non-profits in more than 40 countries. For his community-based activities, he has been named “Idealist of the Year” by City Year Greater Philadelphia and has received the Yitzhak Rabin Public Service Award.

"I am honored to be recognized by Children's Aid,” said Bill McDermott. “Technology is the foundation of a successful future for kids and families across New York City. The CAS-SAP partnership will be a national model and a point of pride for our two organizations."
