The Supreme Court’s decision to end affirmative action is both troubling and misguided. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson summed it up in her dissent: “With let-them-eat-cake obliviousness, today, the majority pulls the ripcord and announces ‘colorblindness for all’ by legal fiat. But deeming race irrelevant in law does not make it so in life.”
At Children’s Aid, we understand the systemic barriers that people of color face at all levels of education – and particularly in higher education. But this ruling will not deter us. Instead, we will redouble our efforts to ensure that all children have the opportunity to receive a quality education from early childhood to college.
